Weekend Antiquing

We spent a long overdue day at the Stamford Antique stores yesterday and were pleasantly surprised by all the new inventory. We fell in love with this pair of French stools covered in a luxurious sage green velvet chevron.

A pair of these benches were being sold upholstered in a great purple linen. A pair of these are the perfect thing to pull up to the dining room table when you have extra guests.

We found two really chic faux bamboo and wicker pieces that were in great condition. This small dresser below and a side table. This faux bamboo side table was a good deal and we needed something like this for one side of the sofa we are bringing to the new office so we snapped it up. We love side tables that have a shelf for displaying books and other pretty things. This dresser was the best piece we came upon. It’s from the 1940’s and is cerused oak with some great square brass pulls. Aren’t these pulls great?!This dresser has a great detail on the front. It’s small enough to be a bedside table or a dresser. This piece might be perfect for an elegant master bedroom we’re designing. There was a set of 6 of these fern prints that were really pretty. We often jump on collections of art like these because they can fill a big wall nicely. How fun are these red lacquered faux bamboo tables? We wish we had somewhere to put them! On the way home we made one last stop into a home accessories store in the neighborhood  and saw these pillows. We are obsessed with the way they used burlap for the fringe. We’ll definitely be using this idea on our next custom pillow order! We talk about vintage and antique pieces a lot here on GBGP and we’re wondering what percent of your home furnishings are vintage/antique? Are there certain furniture pieces you’ll only buy new?

Everything upholstered is new and everything else is vintage with only a handful of exceptions (baby cribs, kitchen chairs and table, bookcases). For a comparable price I can’t begin to touch the same quality in new items.
