A King-size Bed

Accessorizing a bed is no different from accessorizing an important outfit. When it is done well, it always looks right. In fact, how you dress your bed says a lot about your personality just like the number of accessories you typically dress yourself with. Maybe this is why we always take special care in selecting the pillow sizes, their number on the bed, and which fabrics we include when it comes to decorating bedrooms. Generally speaking, all of the decorative pillows find their way to the nearest chair, bench, or carpet when it’s time to climb into bed, but when they are all put together after making the bed, it can be a thing of beauty. Don’t you think? Here are some samples of beds designed by decorators who clearly agree that choosing and compiling a special collection on your bed is serious business (photo: Lonny).

There doesn’t appear to be a right or wrong way to go about creating your pillow vignette. And while we’re usually not fans of matchy matchy ensembles, if you find a fabric that you just love, sometimes the symetry thing can work, like it does below (photo: Lonny).

A bright pop of color in the background of this ensemble is so appealing. This in combination with the pretty floral print fabric covered headboard shows that this person is comfortable with accessorizing in every aspect of life (photo: Lonny).

The concept of three large European size square pillows propped up to the back of a King size headboard seems to be a popular theme. I’m guessing because it is such a wide expanse, you have to limit the number of pillows if you can, and this covers the width well. If you choose a super pretty fabric, like the soft prints below, this can be a wonderful way to decorate a room that is other wise quite monochromatic. Or, choosing a strong solid color back pillow mixed with other patterns works well, too.

A small, but powerful statement is this single green damask pillow front and center on this feminine bed (below). This works so well in the mix of the amazing wall covering behind the bed. So very pretty. Loving the print on bench at the foot of the bed. Courage!
lm4 We’d love to see how you accessorize your bed. Would you like to send us a photo? Come on, show us your boudoir accessorizing skills and we’ll post it on the blog. We can all learn something new and have some fun while we’re at it!

I am with you on the one colorful pillow at the front! i always thought i needed three euro shams, but i never made the investment and have found other ways that work i suppose 🙂 great great topic – one that is often the source of discussions with EVERYONE! i like to change mine up every time i change my sheets, though :/

I don’t love a huge pile of pillows on the bed, although i do appreciate the pillow support if i want to sit on the bed before nighttime. These do look gorgeous, though.

So, we need a headboard STAT and I feel like my white lamps are crying out for some color (trim on the shades perhaps?), but here’s what I’ve got. I didn’t have enough fabric to do three euros (which would have been ideal, evidenced by all the beautiful pictures on your post!) so I tried to make it work by spacing what we do have out on our king-size bed. I’m trying to get an image to upload and am having some difficulties…

Does anyone know who makes the blue and white bedding in the top left quadrant of the divided picture with the three euro pillows? I love it and would love to find it and purchase!
