Black and White

Lately, we’ve both been inspired by everything black and white–from art and accessories to clothing and textiles. We saw a beautiful black and white piece of art while out shopping for clients yesterday that caught our eye. This one, below, is an ink on paper piece called “Late Autumn Branch” by Stephen Grossman. We like that it’s both graphic and serene at the same time. grossmlateautumnbranch2008inkpaper30x22We stumbled upon this piece last week at the Stamford Antique and Artisan Center:bwpaintingWe’re not sure if it’s a palette cleansing thing (it is transition time, after all) or if we’re just not quite ready to start wearing bright colors yet, but we’ve been gravitating more and more towards black and white clothing. Part of what got me thinking about this classic combination is the Black & White themed masquerade ball I’m attending on Friday night (still not sure what I’m going to wear!). These are a few of the black and white pieces we’ve had our eyes on recently. I think these clothes look freshest not with a red lip, but with a pink one (this lipstick by Giorgio Armani in color 500 is my current favorite).blackandwhite1. Dolce & Gabbana printed silk dress 2. Diptique Baies Ceramic Indoor/Outdoor Candle (I’ve single handedly changed the smell of the hallway outside my apartment with this candle. It’s just the most refreshing, uncloying candle out there) 3. J Crew Embroidered Voile Top (simple, chic, great with a pair of blue jeans) 4. 3.1 Phillip Lim ’31 Minute’ Leather Bag (Love this bag–works for day or night) 5. Equipment Heart Print Chiffon Blouse (Looks like polka dots from afar but it’s actually tiny little white hearts) 6. T by Alexander Wang Leather Top 7. Intermix Honeycomb Knit Flare Skirt (This skirt is very Alaia at a very non-Alaia price) 8. K Jacques Snakeskin Gladiator Thong Sandal (K Jacques sandals hold up incredibly well, even in New York City…these guys are on the short list) 9. Bird Bowl Ring Dish 10. Paige Denim ‘Skyline’ Ankle Peg Skinny Jeans in Optic White (The perfect cropped white jean. I always return to them) 11. Essie Like Linen Nail Polish (The closest either of us get to actual white nail polish) 12. ASOS Swing Dress (This dress is just fun).
