Interior Design Apps

appWith the summer vacation days upon us, we’ve compiled a list of apps for you to explore during your downtime (most of them are totally free!). We love finding ways to carry less–and with many of these apps (plus e-mail) we can run our business from just about anywhere. Take a look at some of our favorites, and happy summer!

Evernote: Handiest orgainzing tool ever! Allows us to collect inspiration, pages of notes and drawings, photos of fabric pairings, snapshots of web images and sync it all to our various digital devices. It’s perfect if you’ve got several projects going at one time, even if you’re a homeowner working on several renovation projects in your own home. Goodbye paper clutter!

Color Capture: From Benjamin Moore. Take a photo of anything, anywhere and this app will tell you the matching Benjamin Moore Paint color. How cool is that?

Instagram: If you aren’t already following us on Instagram, please do @gbgpdesign. If you are following us, then you know we are obsessed with this particular app and update our feed at least a few times per day. Much like Pinterest, we get lots of great ideas from our fellow ‘gramers. Like Twitter, you pick and choose who you follow so you only see images from people you are interested in.

Houzz: Just like the website, the app allows you to browse thousands of designer rooms and save the ones you like in your own virtual idea books.

Mark on Call HD:  Mark on Call from Mark Lewison is one of the most intuitive and versatile floor plan apps we’ve tried. You can create customized floor plans for an entire house or just one room; and you can customize them to include your specific furniture dimensions, as well as your own fabric and paint swatches.

One Kings Lane, the app: If you haven’t already discovered One Kings Lane, the site is known for it’s curated collection of discounted home goods. The app makes browsing their product even easier.

Pinterest: Gives you the same functionality as the popular website directly from your phone or tablet, so you can pin and browse in the car, ferry, plane, wherever!

Elle Deco’s LookBook: We use this app most to look for design inspiration. It allows you to search Elle Décor’s plentiful archive of interiors by room and style, and save and share your lookbooks for client reference and inspiration.

I really like the pantone app – you snap a photo of a solid color and it gives you a few options of the matching pantone. It does a pretty decent job!

  • Paula Jean McIntosh

Great list! I’m excited to try Mark on Call! Have you used Magic Plan? Great way to get a quick plan of a room with rough dimensions using nothing but your phone!
