Brimfield Fall 2013 (Part I)

As we write this post, we’re sitting at The Duck, a cozy tavern in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, eating a little dinner after our first day of shopping at Brimfield. We’re gearing up for a 5 AM wake up call so we can be at the gates of the first field opening at 6 AM (yikes!). In this case, the saying the early bird gets the worm couldn’t be more true! We’re looking forward to finding some great pieces and will post about them on Thursday. For now, check out a few of our favorite finds from today. Below is a beautifully colored Heriz rug that we almost pulled the trigger on–until we lifted the smaller rug covering it to find some pretty massive holes. Too bad because it would have been a great starting point for any room.

We’re suckers for chairs with splayed legs like these below.

A lovely pair of wall mounted lanterns.

One dealer had an entire wall of shadow boxes filled with butterflies and beatles. One of these would be great as part of a gallery wall.

We’re always on the look out for vintage Thonet chairs in decent condition. Unfortunately this chair didn’t have a mate, but we bought it anyway with the hope that we’ll eventually find a suitable match.

We uncovered these amazing Navajo rugs, some of them from the 1920’s. They would look great next to a bed, in a foyer, or layered one on top of the other. Navajo rugs are such a wonderful combination of graphic pattern and color. We love them because they are neutral with pops of color.

Doesn’t this one have a fantastic pattern?

The colors of these rugs were at one time much more saturated and have faded with time. For example, the rosy pink color in the piece below was originally red. We really like the more muted colors of the rugs that have come about over the years.

This Navajo rug, below, was our favorite of the bunch. It was in great shape and had a very cool, modern feeling pattern.

One of the easiest things to find at Brimfield is great chairs. We’re not sure about the provenance of the chairs below, but they had interesting graphic backs juxtaposed with natural straw seats. We really liked the combination of back and seat. These would be lovely in a dining room.

More great chairs…these mustache back chairs (French, Art Deco) are a favorite of ours.

More from Brimfield tomorrow!

So sad, unable to make it to Brimfield this September. Looking forward to Brimfield part 2.

Looks like you made out well! Those rugs are absolutely beautiful and will match the chairs so well. I am looking to pick up a few pieces for Fall decorating soon. I think I want some Oriental Rugs in varying shades of red and tan to help bring attention to the living room.
