Katie Ridder: Elle Decor

There’s a wonderfully colorful townhouse designed by interior designer Katie Ridder in this month’s Elle Decor that we just had to share. If you haven’t picked up the magazine yet, you should get it just to read this story and see the photos in all of their glory. The townhouse is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and its inhabitants include three teenage children, a bloodhound, a Labrador retriever, a Labradoodle, two Maine coon cats and a pet rabbit. Talk about a full house! Suffice it to say, it was very important to the homeowners that the house be extremely kid and pet friendly. Below, in the library painted in C2 Paint Luxe in Bewilder, Ridder uses one of our favorite Quadrille fabrics on the windows (we almost used it recently ourselves!). kr4In the hall outside the library, below, Ridder hangs a photograph by Sohei Nishino above a sunny yellow antique sofa with strapping details that accentuate the shape of the piece beautifully. kr2Below, the custom banquette in the dining area exemplifies the designers custom approach to decorating. Katie had the seat cushions on the banquette embroidered with plant forms by an extraordinary artisan. No detail is overlooked in this house and every nook and cranny was used as an opportunity for creativity. kr3Above, Ridder fearlessly plops a pool table in the middle of the “formal” living room. The walls in the kitchen, below, are sheathed in tiles by Mosaic House.kr5One of the daughter’s rooms, below, is covered in a fabric by Muriel Brandolini.kr6One of our favorite rooms in the house is the master bedroom which has walls covered in a silk by de Gournay–a great way to use bold color without having to worry about the condition of the walls. We love the pairing of fabrics Ridder used here for the roman shades and panels.  kr1Are you loving this house as much as we are? It just oozes happy.
