When it comes to classic color combinations, there is nothing more refreshing than a blue and white room. Quintessentially summer, but fabulous all year round, blue and white rooms have the ability to put anyone at ease and transport us to a place of breezy beaches and fresh salt air. Today we’re exploring some of our favorite blue and white interiors as well as announcing today’s giveaway! Rebecca de Ravenel’s blue and white apartment has been a favorite in the blogosphere ever since it was published in Vogue earlier this year. Looking at the pictures, one might suspect to find this space located in a quaint beachside town or some exotic locale in the Caribbean. Can you believe this calm and relaxing living room (above) is smack dab in the middle of NYC?Growing up in the Bahamas, Rebecca wanted to give her Manhattan apartment the island breeze she missed so dearly. And what better way to do so than utilizing a super fresh blue and white color scheme. Her bedroom, above, makes us feel more relaxed just looking at. One great thing about blue and white (and really any two color scheme) is that it gives you the opportunity to be really bold with pattern. In this blue and white living room, above, designer John Knott, retrieved a 1970s ikat pattern from his archives to upholster this vibrantly patterned sofa. Sticking with just blue and white, and a subtle hint of red, Knott harmoniously incorporates other graphic elements such as a bold wallpaper from Quadrille and chevron patterned curtains.Notice above another example of mixing multiple motifs and patterns all in the context of blue and white. Floral ginger gars, graphic rugs, and nautical themed pillows all work together to make the perfect chic and causal dining room. Above, this dining room also shows how well natural elements pair with blue and white interiors; seashell accented chandeliers, living trees, and an oversized sea relic feel right at home.In this living room by Miles Redd featured in the current issue of Architectural Digest (if you haven’t picked up this issue yet, run, don’t walk to newsstands!), Redd uses blue and white with the slightest touch of red. Not easy to pull off without going all American flag, but of course, he pulls it off with aplomb. What’s more beach glam than a a room tented in blue and white stripes?
