One of the projects we’ve been working on recently is building an e-design program for folks who need help designing their homes but don’t require our full service interior design firm. They want to furnish their homes with affordable, quality pieces they can purchase online or at local retail stores but they want the customized look that comes from working with an interior designer. We recently completed a master bedroom design for a young couple who just bought their first home in Chicago. They provided us with a Pinterest board full of inspirational images including comments on each photo describing what they liked about the specific room. They also filled out our style questionnaire, answering some more in depth questions about their likes and dislikes, general aesthetic, and how they envisioned the room would function. Describing their taste as eclectic, wanting to mix more classic pieces (“with a timeless East Coast vibe”) with more modern, mid-Century furnishings, we got to work creating a plan and selecting furniture, lighting, window treatments, carpeting and art for the room with a budget of 15k. Here are some of the inspiration photos from their interest boards:
“Polished, fun, a mix of high/low, contrasting proportions, and breezy luxurious fabrics” is how the couple described their ideal space.
This was the furniture plan we designed using measurements provided to us by the couple and taking into account the multiple functions they envisioned their master bedroom taking on. From here we worked to select furnishings that would give the room the eclectic vibe the couple was after, keeping in mind that they desired a mix of traditional and mid-Century pieces. The color palette was neutrals with pops of color and a mix of subtle pattern. Below, you can see how we catalog each piece with all of the information needed to purchase as well as a hyperlink to the vendor’s website. So far we’ve loved the experience of getting to work with people from all over the country, many of whom have a great passion for interior design and the home.
